today lent their support to International Women’s Day
This year marks the 100th anniversary of
International Women’s Day which provides an opportunity to
celebrate the achievements of women, past and present. Activity is
taking place across the country in March, including a range of
events attended by Government Ministers. This activity
includes:
Launch of Violence against Women and
Girls Action Plan
Theresa May and Lynne Featherstone have today launched a
cross-Government Action
Plan setting out what Government is doing to tackle violence
against women and girls. This follows the Call to End Violence
Against Women and Girls strategic narrative that was published in
November 2010.
Strengthening Women’s Voices
A consultation on 'Strengthening women's voices in Government'
was published on 7th March. This sets out proposals for
a new approach for engaging and listening to women.

House of Lords International Women's Day
debate
A debate was held on 3 March on the theme of ‘global and
domestic challenges for women in the centenary year of
International Women's Day'. Baroness Verma responded on
behalf of Government to a wide range of interesting and

A new strategic vision for girls and
women: stopping poverty before it starts
To mark the centenary of International Women's Day, the
Department for international Development (DFID) is
highlighting how UK's aid efforts are helping girls and women in
the world's poorest countries. The UK has committed to putting
girls and women at the heart of our development assistance. Our new
vision for girls and women, published 8th March, builds on the
commitments set out in the
