Jan Parkinson
Jan worked in the NHS in the early 1990s on the organisational
development issues arising from the 1989 reform agenda.
She joined Gateshead Council in 1996 as Deputy Director, and in
1997 became Strategic Director of HR to the council as well as
Personnel Adviser to Northumbria Police Authority. She remained in
these posts for 10 years and during that time led major
organisational and culture change programmes.
She took up post as Managing Director of Local Government
Employers (LGE) in June 2006. LGE works in partnership with local
authorities, regional employers and other bodies to lead and create
solutions on pay, pensions and employment policy issues. It is
responsible for negotiating the pay of 2.2 million public sector
workers, and a paybill of over £46 billion.
She was President of the Public Sector People Management
Association (PPMA) in 2005. She is also a non- executive member of
Four Housing Group, a Council Member of the University of
Newcastle, a visiting fellow at the business school of the
University of Northumbria, and a Commissioner on the Women and Work
Commission.
