Equality Scheme
About the scheme
Like other public bodies, the GEO is required by equality
legislation to promote equality in respect of disability, gender
and race. These duties include the requirement to develop and put
into place equality schemes outlining what we will do to promote
equality.
From April 2011 the new Equality Duty in the Equality Act 2010
comes into force. GEO itself will move at that stage to become part
of the Home Office. We will be working with HO colleagues to
contribute to the Home Office's work on equality and, in accordance
with the new duty, to integrate thinking about equality even more
closely in our business planning processes, to develop our priority
objectives, and to publish information about our workforce and our
impact.
